Overview
Batteries, starters, and alternators work together, and a failure in one often looks like a failure in another. A new battery will not fix a bad alternator, and a starter replacement will not help a weak battery.
We test first so you replace the part that is actually failing. Many of these repairs are well suited to mobile service, though access to the part varies a lot from vehicle to vehicle.
Common symptoms
These are signs worth getting checked. They are not a diagnosis, and the same symptom can have different causes.
- Slow or labored cranking
- A clicking sound and no start
- Headlights or dash lights that dim or flicker
- A battery warning light while driving
- A battery that keeps dying after a jump-start
- A grinding or whirring noise after the engine starts
What assessment and repair may involve
- Battery and terminal condition check
- Starter and charging-system testing
- Replacement of the failed component after assessment
- Confirming the vehicle starts and charges after the repair
Mobile visit or private facility?
Whether the work can be done at your location depends on the vehicle, the parts involved, the equipment needed, and whether the spot is level, safe, and permitted. Some work needs our private service facility, which is available by appointment only.
Often suited to mobile service
- Battery testing and replacement
- Starter and alternator replacement where access allows
- Terminal and cable cleaning or replacement
May need the facility
- Starters or alternators buried behind other components
- Parasitic drains or electrical faults that take extended time to trace
- Work that needs the vehicle raised or held for longer than a mobile visit allows
What to have ready
- Year, make, model, and engine
- How old the battery is, if you know
- What happens when you try to start the vehicle
- Whether it was recently jump-started, and how it behaved afterward
How requesting service works
- Call us or send a request. Share the vehicle, the symptoms, and where it is.
- We follow up. We confirm coverage, ask follow-up questions, and discuss whether a mobile visit or the facility fits.
- You decide. Service is scheduled only after we agree on a plan with you.
Submitting a request asks us to contact you about service. It does not confirm an appointment or dispatch. Contact us to confirm service coverage and availability.
Frequently asked questions
Do I just need a new battery?
Maybe, but not always. A weak charging system can kill a good battery, so we test before replacing parts.
Can you replace a starter or alternator at my location?
Often, depending on the vehicle and how accessible the part is. Some require more time or equipment and are better done at the appointment-only facility.
